Our husbands are powerful, the priests of our families, leaders, and providers. But what if your husband has strayed from God or, for some reason, fails to take on his duty as a priest or does not know how?
Then it is up to us women, mothers, to be the silent praying force behind our families. We women sometimes underestimate our strength within our families. We sometimes underestimate the value and the power we have to move mountains within our marriages and our families. Likewise, we sometimes seem to forget that we are the spiritual engines behind our families.
Not only when our husbands for some reason (temporarily) fail in their role as priest, but also when our husbands are standing in their strength as priests and heads of the family, it is so important for us as women, wives, and mothers to be that silent yet praying force behind our family.
God Restores
When your husband fails to take on his God-given task as a priest for whatever reason, I can imagine that it can sometimes feel as if you are standing alone, as if you have to pull the cart to bring your family before the throne of God day in, day out. You may experience moments when you want to give up because, physically, it seems as if it is all pointless.
It not only exhausts you, but it is also painful and sad to see your husband, and perhaps your children as well, drifting away from God. Perhaps they are beginning to doubt His existence. It may seem as if the enemy is slowly but surely gaining ground within your family or marriage. Illness, pain, disappointment, or temptations from the world find their way in, causing not only the faith of your husband or children but perhaps also your faith and trust in God to begin to waver.
Yet, I want to encourage you: we praying women are more powerful than we think or than the enemy wants us to believe. He comes up with doubt and strongholds, claiming that we cannot change the situation, but as always, those are lies.
“You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not recorded in Your book?” - Psalm 56:8
God sees every tear (Psalm 56:8), hears every prayer, and sees the situation. Hold fast to the One who brings restoration! God is a God of restoration. In John 21, we read that after Jesus’ resurrection, He personally restores His relationship with Peter, despite his betrayal. This is already an example of personal forgiveness and the restoration of a broken bond.
In addition, God is also a God of covenant. He made a covenant with us and will never abandon us (Luke 22:20, Jeremiah 31:31-34). A marriage, a family, is also a covenant, a covenant with God and with each other, and so valuable to Him. He will not abandon you.
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord. “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord, because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” – Jeremiah 31: 31-34
It is so important that we keep our spouses and our children in our daily prayers and persevere in them.
Bring everything to Him today: your family, your marriage, your children, your struggles, your doubts, pain, and fears, and see how He will perform miracles in your family! Let go of the need to control them and give Him the space to do so. Sometimes this does not happen fast enough for us, but let everything happen in His time.
Let God do His work in your family; you do not have to do it.
