The joy of the simple life

Life in the place where I now live with my husband is a place that we, without a doubt, received from God.

My husband and I both grew up in the city. My husband “enjoyed” a little more of this city life in his youth than I did before he met Jesus, but more about that in his testimony.

In contrast, I lived in the middle of a big city from 2018 to 2024. Pubs, booze, drugs, busy shopping streets, and nightlife were all within easy reach, and I lived in the middle of it all. Although I always saw that house as a blessing, I was coming out of a very difficult divorce when I was assigned that house in a special way, the place started to tire me after all those years. There was no real peace to be found anywhere, and I dreamed of a simple life outside.

The Beauty of God's Creation

A life in the countryside, peace, space, nature, animals, your own vegetable garden, and a marriage with a man of God was at first a dream, later became a point of prayer, after which God answered all these prayers!

The place where we live now, with each other, our children, and our animals, has the power to slow down life and my heart and attune to the surrounding beauty: God’s creation!

We see it in every corner of our property, our little house, and the nature reserve outside. The tranquility of the water of the river in front of our house, the geese, swallows, and swans flying over, the rustling of the wind through the surrounding trees, the silence, the rising of the sun from our bedroom window, and our cats enjoying all the freedom and life in the countryside.

Slowly we see that God is creating more and more changes in our lives and in our hearts. We take more rest between hard work, we enjoy all the beauty and goodness around us, He showed us it was time to throw one of our televisions out the door, and after a while the next and last television also disappeared from our house. We choose more moments to be in contact with each other, our children, and the surrounding nature.

Likewise, we choose to spend less time on our mobile phones, and certainly in the bedroom, is it a kind of unwritten rule to use the mobile phone 😊. Instead, the moments together are filled with good and beautiful conversations, nice worship music, reading the Word of God, a nice book, or listening to a beautiful sermon or teaching about God’s Word.

Conscious choices and unconscious choices, but they are all steps and decisions that God puts in our hearts, and we see the changes that it brings about; slowly but surely more noise and more clutter of the world disappears from our lives, making way for more connection and time with Him and with each other.

God's presence in everything

As I walk through the garden and our little house, I feel an inexplicable joy, knowing that He is present in every moment. Psalm 24 comes to mind:

“The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;” - Psalm 24:1

His touch and His presence can be found in the changing colors of the leaves on the trees, in the crisp morning air, in the sprouting of new plants, and even in the sound of the grazing wild horses and cows.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”- psalm 19:1

These glimpses of His creation remind me that life with Him is not rushed; it is meant to be enjoyed, cherished, and lived deeply.

Mornings have their own rhythm – cuddling our kittens, watering and tending our first vegetable garden plants, our tomato plants, a cup of coffee in the garden, the quiet and space to work out all the creativity God gives me, and even folding laundry; it is all a reflection of the beauty and blessing He has placed in our lives.

There is truly so much value in the simplest moments as a follower of Jesus, and if we take a moment to seek Him in our everyday moments, we will find Him there.

Life in our place isn’t always perfect, but it is marked by His goodness in every sunrise and His faithfulness in every season. Here I see the beauty of a simple life, focused on family, faith, and adventure,

just the way He intended!

I want to encourage you: SEEK HIM!

Seek Him in the simplest moments of your life. Pray as you walk to the car, open the mail, or fold laundry.

Sing hymns as you drive back and forth, sit in the yard, vacuum the floor, and read a verse from His Word at every opportunity!

Blessings!
