“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” – Matthew 7:24-25
Storms are not an “if” in the Christian life; they are a “when.”
In Matthew 7:24-25, we read that Jesus makes no distinction between a wise man and a foolish man based on the weather conditions they face, for both houses experienced the same rain, the same rising floods, and the same strong winds.
The difference was not the intensity of the process; the distinction lay in the foundation upon which the houses were built.
Nowadays, it is easy to build a life on the shifting sands of external validation, physical comfort, or personal success—a worldly foundation. These things might feel solid as long as the sun is shining. But sand cannot hold weight when the pressure rises. When the diagnosis comes, when the relationship breaks, or when the career path collapses, the loose sand beneath the foundation sinks away.
True strength lies in what lies beneath the surface. Building on “the Rock” is not just about hearing the Word; it is about perseverance, obedience, and being rooted in the Word.
It is the daily discipline of continuously and consciously choosing God’s truth over our feelings. It is consciously choosing to remain anchored in His promises even when the wind howls so loudly that you hear nothing else.
God does not ask us to stop the rain or hold back the flood by our own strength. On the contrary, He invites us to dig deeper into Him. A life built on Jesus does not mean that you will not feel the storm; it means that the storm cannot blow you over.
The relationship you build in your quiet time, alone with Him, is what keeps you standing when the world tries to drag you away.
I want to encourage you to maintain your relationship with Him by spending time with Him daily and reading and meditating on His Word so that when those storms come, your house stands safe, firm, and dry on the Rock, Jesus.
