Summer.
And it was hot, very hot!
I love those warmer summer days. Strolling through the garden, doing a bit of work, lazing around a bit. Our kittens handle the heat well, although naturally they do seek out the coolness of the shade.
Next to our house, under the outdoor tap, stands a bucket. I make sure it is always filled with water for our two ginger tomcats, especially on days like this. I ensure there is extra water not only when we are home but certainly also when we go out.
Every day I check the water, refresh it, or top up the bucket.
One morning, just before we were about to leave for the day, I checked the bucket and turned on the tap to let fresh, cool water run in. The water overflowed, and some dirt floating on the surface reached the rim and flowed onto the sidewalk.
It reminded me of how God cares for us.
Through the blessing, we do not scrape from the bottom but draw from the abundance…
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” – Psalm 23

The Overflow of Abundance
“My cup overflows.” (Verse 5) Overflow means abundance, or in other words, more than enough.
It is a reminder that God’s blessings are generous, endless, and abundant.
In a world where we often see lack or scarcity around us, or perhaps even in our own lives, this verse invites us to renew our thinking. For God’s provision is not “just enough”; it is an abundance of joy, hope, and love!
Not only that, but also in material and financial provision.
God wants to bless us richly, and His desire is that we live in abundance in every aspect of our lives. This does not mean that we will not encounter difficulties, but it means that God offers strength, joy, hope, and blessing even in the midst of those difficulties.
The abundance He offers can transform our mindset and thereby our entire life, even in the midst of storms!
Sometimes we may still live as if we are holding an empty cup, frantically trying to fill it ourselves, by our own strength. Our thinking may then be so contradictory to God’s Word.

For example, we might think in terms of poverty, lack, or sorrow, but Psalm 23 reminds us that God does not just fill our cup—He makes it overflow!
His blessings are not “just enough” or limited. They flow incessantly; they overflow into every area of our lives and touch the people around us.
El Shaddai, "The God Who Is More Than Enough".
Living in abundance means embracing the truth and starting to believe that God is a God of more than enough!
With this, I want to encourage you to stop striving by your own strength and to start receiving and trusting that His goodness is greater than your needs or circumstances.
Additionally, consider how you yourself can share the abundance of His goodness with someone. This can be done through an encouraging note, a helping hand, or simply by sharing your testimony of God’s faithfulness.
